Hey everyone! I just recently took delivery of a beautiful Mazda CX-90 PHEV, and while I’m absolutely head-over-heels for the driving dynamics and that smooth transition between EV and gas, I’m struggling a bit with the cargo situation. This is my first three-row SUV, and I'm realizing that staying organized is going to be a bit of a challenge, especially when we have the whole family loaded up.
We’re a family of four, but we frequently have the third row up for carpool duties or when the grandparents visit. As many of you probably know, the space behind that third row is... well, cozy to say the least. I’m trying to find ways to maximize every square inch without the back of the car looking like a cluttered mess every time I open the liftgate.
I have a couple of specific concerns. First, since this is the PHEV model, the underfloor storage is a bit different because of the battery placement and the charging cable bag. That bag takes up a decent chunk of the 'hidden' space, and I’m wondering if anyone has found a more efficient way to store the Level 1 charger while still leaving room for a first-aid kit or roadside tools. Second, I’m really worried about scuffing up the interior plastics or the seat backs when I’m throwing strollers or sports gear in the back. The CX-90 feels so premium inside that I’d hate to see it get beat up in the first six months.
I’ve been browsing the official Mazda accessories catalog, but I’m torn on whether the OEM cargo blocks or the tri-fold liners are actually worth the premium price compared to some of the aftermarket stuff I see on Amazon or from brands like WeatherTech. I’m looking for something that fits perfectly—no sliding around or weird gaps.
For those of you who have had your CX-90 for a while, what are the absolute must-have cargo management accessories you’d recommend to keep things organized and protected?
Hmm, I've had a different experience. Respectfully, I'd consider another option because OEM prices are kinda wild. I mean, I'm still learning the ropes but these custom specs fit great: * ANBINGO Custom Fit Cargo Mat for Mazda CX-90 PHEV - $65, fits the floor hump perfectly!!
* V-Resourcing Back Seat Protector - $20, basically stops all scuffing. It's a decent option for staying organized on a budget lol. gl!
Similar situation here - I went through this last year when I first brought my CX-90 PHEV home! Being a bit of a data nerd, I was actually super worried about the battery placement and how shifting gear might impact the safety of the Level 1 cable under the floor. Honestly, I spent hours looking at the technical specs of the floor pan because that hidden storage area is sooo wierdly shaped compared to the standard gas models. Basically, I realized the OEM cargo blocks are overpriced and kinda flimsy for what they cost. I know others mentioned some great organizers already, but I was focused on budget and safety specs. Instead of spending big on Mazda-branded stuff, I grabbed the BougeRV 2 Pack Car Trunk Cargo Net for like $15 to keep the charging bag from sliding around—Safety first!! To protect those premium interior plastics from my kids' sports gear, I actually used some Duck Brand Self-Adhesive Easy Liner in the side pockets. It was like $8 and works AMAZING to stop scratches without looking cheap. Also, I found that a Star Brite Non-Skid Service Mat cut to size (about $25) was way more stable than some generic mats I tried. It stays put even when I'm cornering hard in Sport mode! I love it! Lesson learned: you don't need to drop $300 at the dealership to keep ur CX-90 pristine and safe. Just gotta be a bit creative with the dimensions! gl!
1. Fortem Car Trunk Organizer
Use this for the charger bag. The underfloor space is wierdly small and OEM blocks aren't secure enough... kinda disappointing, but this is way safer. gl!
ok so, I had the same hype when I picked up my PHEV, but honestly, the cargo management has been a bit of a letdown... First off, big warning: stay away from universal aftermarket mats! Because the PHEV floor height is different due to the battery, generic ones literally wont sit flat and they'll slide into the liftgate latch. Super annoying and honestly not as good as expected. For your situation, I would suggest:
* The Mazda OEM tri-fold liner - it’s unfortunately expensive but it’s the only one that actually accounts for the 3rd-row split properly.
- Padded seat-back protectors - iirc, the interior plastics are basically "scratch magnets," so you gotta cover them asap.
- A slim tech pouch for the Level 1 cable - that stock bag is way too bulky for the tiny sub-floor space. I ended up scuffing my trim within a week cuz I thought the "premium" finish would be tougher... it’s actually really fragile. gl!
