Hey everyone! I’m super excited to share that I’ll finally be picking up my new Mazda CX-90 PHEV in the Premium Plus trim next week. Transitioning from a traditional gas SUV to this plug-in hybrid feels like a massive leap into the future for me, and honestly, I’m a bit overwhelmed with how I should set it up right from day one to keep it looking pristine and functioning efficiently.

Since this is my first foray into the world of electrified vehicles, I've been thinking a lot about the "must-haves" to optimize the daily driving experience. For starters, I’m debating the charging situation. I know it comes with a Level 1 cable, but I’m wondering if most of you found it necessary to immediately install a Level 2 home charger to get that 26-mile electric range back quickly, or if the standard wall outlet is cutting it for overnight hauls.

Another big concern for me is the interior protection. The cabin is gorgeous, but I’ve heard that the piano black trim on the center console is a magnet for scratches and fingerprints. Have any of you found a good high-quality screen protector or a specific wrap for that area? Also, with two kids and a dog, I’m looking for the best all-weather floor mats. I noticed the CX-90 has a unique layout for the third row and cargo area because of the battery placement—do the OEM Mazda mats provide enough coverage, or should I look at something like TuxMat or WeatherTech for better spill protection?

I’ve got a budget of about $800 to $1,000 set aside for these initial upgrades, but I want to spend it on things that actually add value or protect the car's resale. I've been scrolling through various accessory catalogs, but nothing beats real-world feedback from owners who have been living with the car for a few months.

For those of you currently driving the CX-90 PHEV, which 2 or 3 accessories have proven to be absolutely essential for you in terms of protection, charging convenience, or daily utility?

When I first got mine, I thought L1 charging would cut it, but man, waiting 10+ hours is rough. basically, you gotta get the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger. it charges in under 3 hours, letting you run errands twice on EV power! for spills, i prefer Husky Liners Weatherbeater Floor Mats over OEM. Lesson learned? Protection is cool, but L2 utility is worth every penny!!

Soo, I went through this last year. To maximize value, I focused on technical efficiency: 1. Lectron Level 2 EV Charger 240V 32 Amp NEMA 14-50 - hits the car's 7.2kW onboard charger limit for the fastest recovery possible.
2. VViViD Matte Black Vinyl Wrap for DIY protection on that piano black.
3. 3D MAXpider KAGU Series Floor Mats - superior weight-to-durability ratio for kids and dogs tbh. Basically saved $400 over the "popular" options... you know?

yo, congrats on the new ride! i've tried many setups and i'd suggest prioritizing these:
* ScreenProTech Mazda CX-90 Interior Protection Kit for the piano black.
* TuxMat Mazda CX-90 PHEV All-Weather Floor Mats—the coverage is literally miles ahead of OEM.
honestly, L1 charging works fine overnight, but protection is a day-one must. gl!!

Saw this earlier but just getting to it now. I actually had a mini heart attack the first time I cleaned my center console and saw a tiny hairline scratch... these new Mazdas are beautiful but that piano black is so sensitive. I would suggest looking at 3M for some protective film because you really want to baby that surface from day one. A few other things you might want to consider:

  • Go with a JuiceBox for the garage, you cant go wrong with their hardware.
  • Just get any set from Smartliner to handle the kids and dog messes. Be careful with the charging though. I tried sticking with the regular wall outlet for a week and it was a total pain. Just make sure to get the Level 2 setup early so you dont end up constantly stressing about the battery level... it makes the whole PHEV experience way more enjoyable tbh.

Quick question - how much of your daily driving is actually over 25 miles?? Asking cuz it really changes the charging math. I'm super happy with 3D MAXpider Kagu Series All-Weather Floor Mats for Mazda CX-90 PHEV since they're cheaper and dont slip around—huge safety plus. Also, a UL-listed Megear Level 2 EV Charger 16 Amp 240V NEMA 6-20 is like $160 and way safer/faster than the stock L1 cable. Hope that helps!
