Which roof rack fits the 2024 Porsche 911 best?

I just took delivery of my 2024 911 and need a reliable roof rack for ski season. I’m torn between the OEM Porsche Tequipment and Thule’s latest options. I'm really worried about wind noise and potential paint damage. Has anyone tested these on the new 992 body yet? Which setup offers the cleanest fit without sacrificing the car's look?

Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year with my 992! Tbh I was super paranoid about the paint too... so I looked into the technical specs of the Thule WingBar setup vs the OEM stuff.

• I think the Thule bars might actually be a bit quieter because of the aero profile?
• IIRC, someone told me the torque settings on the feet are CRITICAL to avoid denting the roof rails.
• Honestly, just use some clear film under the mounting points... it's literally a lifesaver for the finish!

Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year when I picked up my 992 Carrera T. Honestly, I was in the same boat—totally paranoid about the paint but also cringing at the "Porsche Tax" on the OEM gear. In my experience, you can actually save a ton of cash if you look toward SeaSucker Talon Rack as a legit alternative, or even better, piece together a used setup.

Over the years, I've realized that buying the feet new but hunting for used bars is the way to go. I managed to snag a set of Thule WingBar Evo 118 bars for like $80 on Marketplace, which saved me about $150 right there. Basically, if you're budget-conscious:

* Look for the Thule Fit Kit 186092—that's the specific part that touches your car, so buy that NEW to ensure the rubber is soft and wont scratch anything.
* Pair it with the Thule Rapid System 753 foot pack; you can find these used for around $100 all day.
* Total cost ended up being under $350 vs the $800+ Porsche wants lol.

Idk if it's just me, but the black Thule bars actually looked lowkey better on my Chalk paint than the silver OEM ones anyway. I did notice a tiny bit of whistle at 80mph, but literally just wrapping a bit of bungee cord around the bar breaks up the airflow and fixes it for like $2. gl with the ski season!! peace

For your situation, I would suggest sticking with the Porsche Tequipment Roof Rack Base Carrier System 992. Look, I've been running racks on 911s for over a decade now, and honestly, the OEM fitment is just safer for your paint. The way the 992 mounting points are designed, the factory bars sit perfectly in those little flip-up tabs without rubbing the actual roof surface, you know?

I tried a Thule WingBar Edge setup on my last car and while it looked sleek, the wind noise was actually a bit more noticeable than the Porsche bars... weird, right? If you're really worried about scratches, basically just put some clear 3M film under the feet before you mount them. Also, make sure to get the Porsche Tequipment Ski and Snowboard Carrier to match—it's super solid at highway speeds. Just be careful not to overtighten the bolts, cuz that's how most people mess up their trim. gl!

Late to the party but I had to jump in because I actually had a pretty stressful experience with this on my 992 last season. Honestly, I'm a total safety nerd when it comes to high-speed stability, and unfortunately, I found that many aftermarket setups just don't handle the torque and aero of the 911 well enough for my liking. I initially tried a cheaper crossbar kit and it literally whistled so loud I thought a window was cracked.

If you're highkey worried about safety and your paint, here's what I recommend for the most secure technical fit:

• For the bars, the Yamika JetStream Black Crossbars 50 inch are basically the gold standard for aero. They have a T-slot that's super precise, which reduces that annoying whistling sound way better than the boxy OEM bars iirc.
• You HAVE to pair them with the Yakima Skyline Towers and the specific Yakima Landing Pad 11. This landing pad is the secret sauce—it fits into the 992's factory fixed points perfectly and has a rubber base that actually protects the clear coat from micro-scratches.
• For the actual gear, I switched to the Yakima FatCat 6 EVO Ski and Snowboard Mount. It’s got an offset joint that keeps the bindings from hitting the roof, which is a HUGE risk on the low-profile 911 body.

Basically, the lesson I learned is that the "Porsche Tax" gear is okay, but it's kinda dated tech. This Yakima setup felt way more solid at highway speeds... but yeah, just make sure you torque everything to spec and maybe put some tiny strips of 3M clear bra under the mounting feet just to be 100% safe. Good luck with the ski season! 👍

Ok so, honestly, after years of swapping racks on different cars, I've learned that market research is your best friend. In my experience, I've seen some high-end European brands that literally specialize in aero-profiles that might beat the ones already mentioned for wind noise. Basically, I'd suggest looking into some boutique Italian or Swedish racks—not the big names everyone knows. My current setup on my 992 is super quiet, but honestly, I'm always cautious about the torque specs. I'd seriously recommend double-checking the load limits before you mount anything heavy for ski season. Gl!
