Looking for winter tire suggestions for my Model Y. What are your best recommendations with a $1000 budget?

> Looking for winter tire suggestions for my Model Y. What are your best recommendations with a $1000 budget? Basically, the most CRITICAL thing you need to check is the Load Index. The Model Y is a tank, so you definately need an Extra Load (XL) rated tire—look for a 104 index for the 19" Gemini setup. If the rating is too low, the sidewall flex will ruin your efficiency and handling. I recommend the Hankook Winter i*cept evo3. It handles the instant torque really well and usually stays under your $1000 limit. Also, double-check your clearance if you're downsizing to 18s for winter; some rims wont clear the brake calipers on the Performance trim. Just some tech specs to keep in mind!

Hey! I've had some... unfortunate experiences with cheaper brands on my Model Y. Last year, I tried the Bridgestone Blizzak WS90. While good initially, they wore down FAST. Not as good as expected, honestly. If you can stretch the budget a little, consider them, but keep an eye on wear. Maybe others have better luck? I'm still learning about winter tires myself!

Skip full winter tires! Consider Nokian WR G4 all-weather. Amazing grip, sipes stay open longer than typical all-seasons, and save you storage. Expect to pay around $800 installed!

Consider Falken Eurowinter HS01. Decent option, good value. Lasted me 3 seasons.

Safety first, folks! Forget 'best' – prioritize stopping power. I've seen too many near-misses. Over the years, Bridgestone Blizzak WS90s have consistently delivered top-tier ice/snow braking performance in independent tests. Check Tire Rack for the latest data. Your family's worth more than saving a few bucks on less reliable rubber, trust me.

Been running Bridgestone Blizzaks for 3 seasons now. Initial cost was $900 installed, but treadwear's been impressive. Worth considering the longevity vs. cheaper options.

Been swapping my winter tires for years. If you're handy, consider buying tire mounting tools. Saves a ton long-term! You can get a decent setup for under $300. I've had good luck with Blizzaks. Just saying, DIY can be surprisingly satisfying, and you learn a lot.

Bridgestone Blizzak's popular, but check Tire Rack; prices fluctuate wildly this year. Research pays!
