So my niece is turning ten next month and since we're all here in Chicago my sisters and my parents are constantly texting me asking for gift ideas. I really need to get a list together before the party on the 15th but I have a major hurdle. My parents are basically tech-allergic and if I send them a link that makes them create a password or verify an email address they are literally never going to use it. Theyll just call me and ask me to do it for them which defeats the whole point lol.
I spent some time looking around online and found Elfster and Giftster but honestly they both seem way too complicated for a one-off birthday. Elfster seems geared toward big groups where everyone has an account and Giftster kept popping up ads and asking me to sync my contacts which I definitely dont want to do. I also tried just a basic Google Doc but then people can accidentally delete stuff or they forget to say they bought something and we end up with three of the same LEGO set.
Does anyone know a free site where I can just throw together a list of links and then send a single URL to my family where they can just click claimed or whatever without having to register? I really need something idiot-proof...
I have tried many of these platforms over the years. In my experience, Giftful is the best bet for the tech-allergic. It uses a simple link-sharing system so guests dont need accounts to mark items as bought.
I actually went through this exact headache last year when my in-laws were visiting for my sons birthday. They are the same way, basically anything with a login is an instant dealbreaker. I would suggest you look at a site called Thingstogetme. Its totally free and guests dont have to register to claim stuff, which is a lifesaver for the budget and my sanity. But definitely be careful when you add items. I once added a bunch of links and the site redirect was so slow my mom thought it was a scam lol. Make sure to test it on your phone first before sending. If youre looking for cheap but cool gifts, I actually picked up the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Mighty Dinosaurs 31058 for my nephew and it was a huge hit for under fifteen bucks. Just watch out for those sites that try to sell your data... always read the fine print on the free ones.
Building on the earlier suggestion, honestly its ridiculous how tech companies track you. Im happy skipping them because:
Building on the earlier suggestion, I am literally in the exact same boat and it is so stressful! I have been dealing with this exact headache for like four months now and I still havent found the perfect fit for my tech-phobic family... it is just so frustrating!
