Finally pulled the trigger on a 2024 RS 6 Avant in Nardo Gray and honestly I am terrified of the first rock chip hitting that hood. It is arriving in about two weeks and since I am up in the Pacific Northwest the roads are basically just endless rain and gravel during the winter. I am trying to decide how to spend my protection budget which is capped at around $6000 right now.

I am stuck between these setups:

  • Full body Xpel Stealth PPF: I got a quote for $7200 which is over budget but man it looks mean. It would protect every single inch but I would have to dip into my tire fund.
  • Front track pack PPF plus a high-end ceramic coating: This covers the bumper, full hood, fenders and mirrors then ceramics the rest. Quote is $3500 which is way more comfortable.
  • Front clip PPF plus those really beefy Audi OEM mud flaps and a thick cargo liner for the trunk since I will be hauling my golden retriever around.

I am leaning toward the second option but I am worried about the flared rear wheel arches getting peppered by stones since the car is so wide. Is the full wrap actually worth the extra three grand or am I just being paranoid because it is a new car? I also need a solid recommendation for a dash cam that doesnt look like a mess with wires everywhere...

I remember being terrified of chips too! I went the budget route with just the front and added some DIY bits to the rear flares. Saved me a ton of money for actual road trips and looks fantastic.

Honestly, the track pack plus ceramic is the sweet spot. I did that on my last performance wagon and was super satisfied with the protection. Those rear arches are magnets for stones though, so just pay a bit extra to have them wrapped separately.

To add to the point above: I'm gonna have to disagree on the full wrap. Spending over $7k on plastic film just feels wrong when that buys a whole lot of tires or gas for road trips. Honestly, Nardo Gray hides a lot anyway. If you're in the PNW, the gravel is real, but a full body wrap is mostly for peace of mind rather than actual resale value. I'd go with a modified front track pack and spend the savings on better utility gear:

  • Get the rockers and rear wheel arches wrapped specifically with 3M Scotchgard Pro Series Clear PPF. Those arches take a beating from the front tires.
  • Grab some Audi Genuine RS6 Splash Guards to keep the spray down. They look decent and save your paint from sandblasting.
  • For the golden retriever, safety is huge. Look at the Ruffwear Load Up Dog Car Harness so he doesnt become a projectile if you have to slam the brakes. For the camera, check out the BlackVue DR970X-2CH 4K UHD Dash Cam. If you get it hardwired by a pro, you wont see a single cable and the 4K quality is top notch for insurance stuff. Its a much more balanced way to spend that $6k budget without feeling like you're babying a museum piece... you gotta actually drive the thing!

Jumping in here since I was in the same boat with my wagon last year. Honestly I am super satisfied with how I handled my budget and you probably dont need to spend the full seven grand. If you are worried about those wide arches, you should definitely check out some of the detailer vlogs on YouTube. Just search for something like RS6 Avant PPF coverage guide or whatever and there are a ton of videos showing exactly where the stones hit most. I saw a really good one a while back that breaks down why the full wrap might be overkill if you just add a few key spots... saved me a ton of cash. Reddit also has a massive thread on the Audi sub about the best dash cam installs without the wire mess. Good luck with the new ride, Nardo is the best color for sure!
