so i just bought this z06 and honestly im kinda terrified of how fast it is. i signed up for a track day at COTA in austin next month and people keep telling me i need aero upgrades so i dont fly off the road but i have literally no idea what that means. is it just like a big wing on the back? i have maybe $5000 to spend but i dont want to waste it on stuff that doesnt work or makes the car harder to drive. sorry if this is a really dumb question but i am totally lost here. what kind of parts or track accessories should i be looking at first so i dont crash...

truthfully, for your first time at COTA, you really dont need a massive wing that might make the car twitchy or unpredictable. in my experience, keeping the car balanced is way more important than just piling on raw downforce. i've tried many setups and for a $5,000 budget, i suggest sticking to professional, factory-engineered parts that wont mess up the handling. here is what i would prioritize for reliability and safety:

Quick reply while I have a sec... > i dont want to waste it on stuff that doesnt work or makes the car harder to drive. Ugh, i totally feel that. I bought a cheap splitter last year and it basically disintegrated on the first curb... super disappointing and not as good as expected at all. To be safe, i'd skip the flashiness for now. Honestly, you should focus on tires and heat management so the car actually finishes the day. Out of curiosity, are you still on the factory radiator? Texas heat is basically a death sentence for these things if you're pushing it. If it were me, i'd snag Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ZP 285/30ZR19 for better grip and maybe the Dewitts Direct Fit Aluminum Radiator for C7 Z06 to keep from limp mode. Cooling is way more important for safety than some carbon bit that might fly off lol.

Building on the earlier suggestion, i've had issues finding actual wind tunnel data for this car. It's frustrating. Unfortunately, most generic tips are not as good as expected.

  • look on reddit for track layouts
  • check the official corvette track prep guide Honestly, just search google. I remember a really thorough video. It explains the physics and downforce coefficients better. Much better than whatever I'd say here.

Tuned my old C7 for COTA last year. Do you have the standard Z06 or the Z07 package? Your baseline setup really changes how that back straight feels.
