I just got a 2024 GV70 Sport and honestly I am so scared to touch anything on it because it looks so nice but I really need to get my kayak to the lake by next month. I noticed these flush rails on the top but I have no clue if I can just buy any rack from a store or if Genesis makes special ones that wont scratch the car. I looked at Thule but there are like a million parts and I got overwhelmed immediately... sorry if this is a super basic thing to ask.
Is there a specific kit that fits the Sport trim perfectly without being a total nightmare to install? My budget is about $450-500 tops since the car already cost a fortune lol.
tl;dr: Stick with the OEM bars to stay under budget and guarantee a fit. I was in the same boat last year. Honestly, I am very satisfied with the Genesis GV70 OEM Roof Rack Cross Bars. They work well with the flush rails and I have had no complaints about the finish scratching as long as you keep the area clean before mounting. Thule is great but by the time you buy the bars and the fit kit, youre gonna be way over your $500 limit. If you want a slightly different look, the Rhino-Rack Vortex ROC25 Flush Roof Rack is another solid direct fit that wont kill your wallet. I use the factory bars for my kayak all the time and they are super sturdy. Its way less of a headache than trying to piece together a Thule kit. Just take it slow during the first install and youll be fine.
To add to the point above: i totally get the fear of scratching a brand new car. i've tried many different setups over the years and honestly the thule ecosystem can be a total headache with all those numbered kits. if you want something that feels a bit more straightforward and fits your budget, look into the Yakima SightLine Towers for Flush Rails with the Yakima JetStream Bars Black 50. basically, the sightline system is made specifically for those flush rails like on your gv70 sport. you'll just need the Yakima SightClip Fit Kit for Genesis to make it perfect. in my experience, these are way easier to install than the euro brands and they look super sleek. you can usually find the whole bundle for right around your $500 limit if you check online. it's plenty strong for a heavy kayak and wont leave a mark if you're careful during the initial mounting process... just take it slow!
Quick reply while I have a sec. In my experience, universal clamp racks are a disaster for flush rails. Theyll scratch your finish. Only use systems with a model-specific fit kit.
Congrats on the Sport trim! It looks absolutely killer in person, I totally get why you are nervous about the paint. Before I dive into my thoughts, I gotta know what kind of kayak are we talking about here? Is it like a massive 100lb fishing rig or a light sit-in? That weight really changes which brand I would point you toward! I have been looking into this lately and honestly...
