Hey everyone! We’re planning a massive cross-country road trip in our Kia Carnival, but even with the van's massive interior, we’re definitely going to need extra storage for all the kids' gear and camping equipment. I’ve been looking at different roof rack systems, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the options specifically for the Carnival's flush rails. I’m really concerned about wind noise during long highway stretches and making sure the weight capacity is sufficient for a large cargo box. Does anyone have a setup they love that's easy to install and feels rock-solid? Which brands or specific models would you recommend for the best fit and stability for a family trip?

TL;DR: I had a bad time with wind noise on a cheap set, so I switched to Yakima JetStream Black 50 inch Crossbars for the Carnival's flush rails. Much more stable, but seriously watch those weight limits!

Stumbled upon this discussion and honestly, I went through this last year. I originally tried a budget brand but unfortunately, it felt super sketchy at high speeds. Not as good as I expected... the vibration was actually scary. I eventually settled on Yakima JetStream Black 50 inch Crossbars paired with Yakima SightLine Towers for Flush Rails. Even then, I'm still kinda paranoid about overloading the roof, so I always use a Tekton 1/4 Inch Drive Click Torque Wrench to hit the exact specs. Safety first, right??

Quick Tip: Check ur manual for the Carnival dynamic weight limit—it is often lower than the rack’s rating. Also, do a 'shake test' at every gas stop to make sure nothing loosened up!

For your situation, I HIGHLY recommend going with a Thule setup—it’s honestly the gold standard for a reason. I’ve been using the Thule WingBar Edge crossbars paired with the Thule Flush Rail Edge Foot Pack 7206 on my Carnival, and it’s literally been a game changer.

Most racks hum like crazy at 70mph, but these are aerodynamic as heck and stay super quiet during long highway stretches. They aren’t exactly cheap—you’re looking at around $650 for the bars and feet—but the build quality is rock-solid. Plus, they handle a massive box like the Thule Motion XT XXL Cargo Roof Box without any flexing or weird wobbles. It’s a bit of an investment, but worth it for the peace of mind when you’ve got the whole family’s gear up there. Installation is pretty straightforward too, took me maybe 30 minutes. Seriously, don't cheap out on the mounts! Good luck with the trip! 👍

Respectfully, I'd consider another option. Big brands are pricey; Turtle Air 2 Crossbars for Kia Carnival for $170 is a decent option that's quiet and better for ur budget.
