Honestly im so done with looking for a car right now it is actually draining my soul. Ive been trying to find a decent Mazda CX-5 for weeks because my current Rogue is literally falling apart—the transmission is whining like a jet engine and I just cant deal with it anymore. But every single site I go to feels like a total trap. I spend hours scrolling through listings and then I find one that looks good, only to find out the price is actually $3k higher because of dealer prep fees or some other nonsense they bury in the fine print.

Ive tried Facebook Marketplace but its just 50% scams and the other 50% are people who dont reply for three days and then tell me its sold. I went to a local lot yesterday and they wanted $26k for a 2018 with 80k miles... like come on. I have a hard budget of $22,000 and I really need to get this sorted before the snow starts hitting here in Columbus because my current car wont make it through another winter. I just want a reliable 2019 or 2020 Touring trim with the heated seats and maybe the Bose audio if im lucky but everything online is either a salvage title or priced like its brand new.

I even checked Carvana and Vroom but their prices are insane right now compared to what they were a year ago. Is there some specific Mazda forum or a better regional site I should be looking at? I feel like the big aggregators are just rigged to show the most expensive stuff first or its all just bait and switch listings to get you to call the dealership.

Are there any actual hidden gem websites or specific places where people actually sell their cars for fair prices without all the games? Or maybe a way to filter out the garbage on the big sites? Im tired of refreshing Autotrader and CarGurus just to see the same overpriced inventory from the same shady dealerships. Where are you guys actually finding good deals on used CX-5s these days because I feel like im losing my mind staring at these screens...

Man, I totally feel your pain. In my experience hunting down three different Mazdas over the last decade, dealing with those hidden dealer fees is easily the worst part. If youre trying to stay under $22k for a Mazda CX-5 Touring 2019 AWD, you gotta change your strategy because the big sites are flooded with those bait prices. Ive tried many platforms and honestly, using an aggregator like AutoTempest is my go-to now. It pulls from everywhere—eBay, Craigslist, and the big sites—so you dont have to jump between tabs constantly. The pro is the massive reach; the con is you still have to sift through those shady dealer listings. If you want to avoid the games entirely, check the classifieds on the Mazda247 forums. I found my last Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2020 there. People on enthusiast forums actually take care of their rides and usually give you the real price without the $900 doc fee nonsense. Another trick I use is filtering specifically for Private Seller on sites like Cars.com Used Car Search. Dealers hate it because they cant hide there easily. You might have to drive an hour or two outside Columbus to find a person selling their own car, but thats usually how you win. Dont give up tho, the 2019 and up models are miles ahead of that Rogue in terms of reliability and the interior feels way more premium.

Re: "> I spend hours scrolling through listings and..." - honestly its so draining. I've been on these boards a long time and the market right now is the worst I've seen. Things were different a few years ago. After my old ride died, I went through the same headache. There was this perfect Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD at a big corporate lot, but after driving two hours, they tried to hit me with a $1,800 reconditioning fee. Total waste of a Saturday. Better luck came from looking at places I usually ignore:

  • Rental car sales (fixed prices so no games, tho interiors can be rough)
  • Local credit union repo lists
  • Small town dealerships way outside Columbus Eventually my current setup came from a tiny shop that didnt even have photos online yet. It felt kinda sketchy but the price was actually the price. Just keep your head up because the big sites are definitely designed to frustrate you into overpaying... it sucks tho.
