Hey everyone, I recently took delivery of a Porsche 911 (992 generation) and I’m already looking ahead to my first tire replacement. The factory set has been decent, but I really want to maximize the car's potential, especially for spirited weekend drives through the canyons. I’m looking for something that offers surgical steering precision and incredible grip when the tires are warmed up.

I’ve been eyeing the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S as a reliable go-to, but I’ve also heard great things about the Pirelli P Zero (NA1) spec specifically tuned for our cars. My main concern is finding that perfect balance—I need something that can handle a bit of damp pavement without losing composure, but track-day performance is the priority. I'm not overly worried about tread life, but I’d prefer not to have to replace them every 3,000 miles!

For those of you running a 992, what have you found works best for a mix of high-performance street use and occasional track sessions? Are you sticking with the N-rated OEM recommendations, or have you found an aftermarket option that completely changes the driving dynamics for the better?

Similar situation here - I was terrified of hydroplaning during my rainy commute but still wanted that track-ready grip. Honestly, I saved a ton by grabbing the Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 K127 instead of the usual pricey N-rated stuff. They're amazing in the wet and cost way less!

In my experience, if you're looking for value without sacrificing that surgical feel, unfortunately, the N-rated options are just too pricey for what they offer. I'd suggest looking at the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 vs the Bridgestone Potenza Sport. The Continentals are way better in the damp and last longer, whereas the Bridgestones have stiffer sidewalls for better turn-in. Honestly, the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 is the smarter buy for canyon runs! 🏎️

Honestly, I totally get the struggle! I'm still pretty new to the 992 world myself, but I've been obsessing over this same thing for my weekend drives. I was really worried about the cost of replacing tires every season, so I did a ton of digging.

In my experience, you might want to consider the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (N0 Porsche Spec). I actually found a set for around $1,600, which felt like a better value than the Pirelli's since they seem to last a bit longer in real-world use.

Here's what I've noticed:
* The grip is seriously impressive once they're warm, but they don't freak out if you hit a sudden puddle.
* They feel a bit more "cushioned" than the Pirelli P Zero (NA1) which helps on those longer canyon runs.
* Steering feels precise, though maybe a tiny bit less "raw" than the track-focused options.

Make sure to check the N-rating though! I learned the hard way that the Porsche-specific tuning actually makes a difference in how the sidewall reacts. That said... if you're doing more than a couple track days, you might find the 4S gets a bit greasy. But for a mix of street and track? It's been great for me so far. Hope this helps!
