Given reports of inconsistent performance with the factory Model Y wireless charger, especially with larger phones and cases, what are the best aftermarket options? Considering recommendations for MagBak and noting potential improvements in newer Model Y chargers, which models offer reliable fast charging and seamless integration? Do these integrate well with different phone sizes and cases, and what are the pros and cons of minimalist designs versus those with extra features?
I use this one: Magnetic Wireless Car Charger Pad.
> Given reports of inconsistent performance with the factory Model Y wireless charger, especially with larger phones and cases, what are the best aftermarket options? Yeah the factory pad is pretty hit or miss depending on your case thickness. If you dont want to drop a hundred bucks on some of those premium setups, I've found a couple cheaper ways to go. Honestly, the Spigen OneTap Pro MagSafe Car Mount is a tank and way more affordable than most boutique tesla gear. Its super reliable for fast charging and actually stays put. If you really want to stick to the console pad style tho, the Basenor Model Y Wireless Charger Pad is a decent budget pick. Its basically a replica design that actually works with thicker cases better than the OEM one. Compared to stuff like Jowua, you might lose some of the fancy minimalist aesthetic but your wallet stays way happier. Sometimes simple is just better... especially if you're like me and swap phones every year lol. Both these options give you that fast charge without the weird disconnects you get from the stock rubber mat.
Just catching up on this thread... Like someone mentioned, the factory pad is basically a coaster if you have a chunky case. We've talked about the MagBak mount and some basic magnetic pads already, but it seems like consistency is the big issue everyone's trying to fix. I've been really satisfied with the Jowua MagSafe Wireless Charging Car Mount for a few months now. Its super stable and actually delivers a reliable charge compared to the built-in one. If you want something that fits directly into the console area instead of a mount, the Taptes Wireless Charging Pad for Tesla Model Y is a great cost-effective alternative. It handles my larger phone with zero issues and looks pretty OEM too. No complaints so far, it just works every time I hop in. Way better than fighting with the stock setup imo.
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
If you're experiencing these problems, aftermarket options might be a good solution. While some have suggested MagBak, it's worth noting that it's a magnetic mounting system, not a wireless charger itself. You'd still need a compatible wireless charging puck. However, a MagBak mount *combined* with a good wireless charger can provide a very stable and reliable charging experience. Regarding specific aftermarket chargers, the TapTes dual wireless charging pad is designed specifically for the Model 3, but some users have adapted it for the Model Y.
