I’m looking to upgrade the stock tires on my Silverado 1500 for something more capable. I do a mix of daily commuting and weekend trips to the deer lease, so I need a balance of highway comfort and off-road grip. Does anyone have experience with the KO2s or Wildpeaks on this truck? What’s the best all-terrain tire for balancing road noise and tread life?
Seconding the recommendation above for the Wildpeaks! Honestly, I’m still a bit of a newbie with my Silverado, but I’ve been researching safety like crazy since I haul my kids around. Have you checked out the Michelin LTX A/T2? They’re amazing for reliability and wet-road safety, which is huge for daily commuting. Plus, the tread life is fantastic! Good luck with the lease trips!
For your situation, I've been looking into this a lot lately since I'm also fairly new to the Silverado world, and I really think you should look at the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 if you're leaning toward durability. However, if you're trying to save some cash while still getting solid performance, I'd suggest checking out the General Grabber A/TX.
I saw this earlier but just now responding—tbh, while the Wildpeaks mentioned before are great, the Grabbers are often a bit cheaper and honestly have a really similar tread pattern that handles highway noise surprisingly well. Here's a few things I've found from my research:
• **Budget Winner:** The General Grabber A/TX is usually around $20-$40 cheaper per tire than the big names but still carries the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake rating for snow.
• **Tread Life:** From what I've read on teh forums, the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT is another fantastic choice for Silverados because it's specifically designed to handle heavy loads without wearing out too fast.
• **Road Noise:** If your commute is long, the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 is known for being super quiet, though it might struggle a bit more in deep mud at the lease compared to the KO2s.
It really depends on your needs, but don't feel like you have to buy the most expensive ones to get a good ride. Hope this helps! Good luck with the truck!
In my experience, you honestly can't go wrong with the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. I've run them on my Silverado for a few years now, and they're super quiet on the highway compared to the KO2s. They handle the mud at the deer lease just fine too! Tread life has been decent so far... I think? Anyway, they're a great balance for a daily driver. Hope this helps!
ngl I think focusing just on the brand is only half the battle. I respectfully disagree that picking a specific tire like the Wildpeaks or KO2s is the only factor for tread life. IMO it is really about the DIY maintenance you do in your own driveway that keeps them quiet and lasting longer. I have been running the Toyo Open Country A/T III on my Silverado and they are great, but they only stay that way because I do the service myself.
Just caught up on this thread. @Reply #6 - good point! Its easy to get lost in all the options. Most of the guys here hit the nail on the head with the Wildpeaks and KO2s, but after years of swapping sets on my Silverados, I found a couple other winners that havent been mentioned much. Im currently running the Firestone Destination X/T and honestly couldnt be more satisfied. Theyre a bit lighter than some of those heavy duty tires which helps keep the ride smooth on the pavement, but they still have that rugged grip for when things get dicey at the lease. I've got nearly 45k on mine and they still look meaty. If road noise is your absolute priority tho, check out the Continental TerrainContact A/T. Its basically a highway tire that happens to be great off-road. That tread works well for long trips without the annoying hum. Just keep them rotated every 5k miles or so like the others said and you'll be set.
