i just picked up my new ioniq 5 yesterday and honestly im kinda overwhelmed. it feels like sitting in a spaceship compared to my old civic. i live in seattle where it rains basically every day so im worried about the light interior getting ruined by my wet coat and muddy boots.
i have no idea where to even start with buying stuff for the inside or if there are things i definitely need. i only have about 300 bucks left for now after the big down payment so i cant go too crazy. are there specific floor mats or maybe things for that big gap under the middle console that are actually useful? sorry if this is a dumb question i just dont want to mess up the car...
quick reply while i have a sec. unfortunately i wasted money on cheap generic trunk mats at first and they were just... terrible. they smelled like chemicals for weeks and didnt actually stop rain from soaking the carpet. super disappointing since i was trying to be budget conscious. honestly just skip the generic stuff and grab a BestEvMod Ioniq 5 Trunk Mat TPE Cargo Liner because it actually fits the sliding seats right. also for safety please dont buy those cheap slip-on steering wheel covers. they can slip during sharp turns which is a total nightmare. if you have cash left from that 300 bucks i really suggest a Fanttik X8 Apex Tire Inflator Portable Air Compressor. the mobility kit hyundai gives you is honestly kinda unreliable and having a real pump makes me feel way safer when im driving in the rain...
Saw this earlier but just now responding. From my experience with these newer eco-friendly materials, they are porous and stain much easier than old-school leather. Since you're worried about wet coats, you might want to consider how moisture interacts with the seat heaters too. I would suggest looking into a high-quality fabric protector before the rainy season really hits hard. Be careful with generic sprays tho, some can leave a weird oily residue. I personally used Gtechniq Smart Fabric V2 and it’s been a lifesaver for repelling water. Unlike the cheap retail brands that use heavy solvents, these higher-end ceramic-based coatings won't change the texture of your seats. Also, that magnetic square to the left of the steering wheel is actually metal. I’d recommend the Spigen OneTap Magnetic Dash Clip to keep your phone in line of sight. Just make sure the magnet is strong enough for your phone so it doesn't slide down and scratch the dash finish.
Congrats on the upgrade! The IONIQ 5 really does feel like a leap into the future. Living in the PNW means mud is your main enemy, especially with those light carpets. If you have 300 bucks, I'd dump most of it into some serious floor protection. TuxMats are pretty much the community favorite because they have super high walls that block splash-back better than the OEM ones. Here are a few things that actually fit well:
Totally agree about getting mats asap. Unfortunately, several I tested didnt have high enough shore A hardness, which caused warping that lets Seattle rain soak the light carpet...
