So I just picked up my first ever 4xe yesterday and honestly I have no clue what I'm doing with the battery part. Im in Austin and I live in an apartment so I'm already kinda stressed about how to keep it charged up. The dealer gave me a cord but it seems super slow? Like its gonna take forever. I keep seeing people talk about Level 2 chargers and adapters for Tesla stations but it’s all Greek to me lol. I have about $500 set aside for extra gear right now if that helps. Sorry if this is a really basic question but what are the absolute must-have charging accessories I should actually buy so I don't get stranded?

Invest in the Lectron Tesla to J1772 Adapter 48 Amp! It's a fantastic, budget-friendly solution for public charging. I love how this amazing tool saves me so much money!

Like someone mentioned, that factory cord is really just a slow backup for when you have zero other options. Since youre in an apartment in Austin, you gotta be extra careful about safety and heat. Cheap chargers from random brands can melt outlets if they arent UL listed, which is a nightmare in a shared building. Heres what I would actually spend that $500 on:

  • Schumacher SC1455 Level 1/Level 2 Portable EV Charger 16 Amp
  • This is super reliable. It works on your standard 120v plug but can also do Level 2 if you find a 240v outlet. Its way safer than the no-name stuff on Amazon.
  • Foval EV Charger Lock for J1772
  • Since youre in an apartment, this keeps people from unplugging your Jeep while you sleep. Level 1 charging is basically a trickle... it takes like 12 to 14 hours for a full charge. Level 2 gets you there in about 2 hours. If you cant find a 240v plug at home, look for grocery stores in town with J1772 plugs. Just dont use a regular extension cord from a hardware store. Most arent rated for the continuous draw an EV pulls and they will straight up melt.

Ngl the factory cord is basically a turtle. I spent my first week with my 4xe just watching the battery percentage crawl... it was painful. Since youre in an apartment, you should definitely look into a portable Level 2 unit if you can find a NEMA 14-50 plug anywhere nearby. I went with the Megear Level 2 EV Charger 32 Amp NEMA 14-50 and Ive been really happy with it. Its way more cost-effective than a permanent wall-mounted station if youre renting. It cut my charging time down from 12 hours to about 2.5 hours, which is huge when I only have a few hours between errands. No complaints at all, it works well and fits right in that floor cubby in the back. Definitely saves you from being stranded on gas only when you want that electric torque.
