Just picked up a new Outlander PHEV and I’m loving the drive! I want to keep it in top shape, especially with kids in the back. I'm looking for high-quality all-weather mats and maybe a better Level 2 charging cable. What are the absolute essentials you’ve found to be life-changers for daily use?
Sooo I tried generic mats first but unfortunately they basically fell apart... not as good as expected. My comparison:
- WeatherTech FloorLiner: Great fit but honestly too stiff.
- Husky Liners WeatherBeater: Lowkey better cuz they're flexible, tho they smell weird?
Also, the Lectron Level 2 EV Charger 240V 16 Amp is life-changing. Lesson learned: dont go cheap on mats lol. r u getting a trunk liner too?
Sooo i actually almost sparked my garage outlet using a sketchy unrated cable once, it was *terrifying* lol. For a budget safety-first setup, I love SMARTLINER Custom Fit Floor Mats 3 Row Liner Set for 2022-2024 Mitsubishi Outlander. They’re made of TPE, cost $160, and are AMAZING against spills! Also, grab the Schumacher SC1455 Level 2 EV Charger 16 Amp 240V. It's UL-certified and costs maybe $170ish? Safety first always!!
Saw this earlier but just getting back to you now... Congrats on the new ride! I've been driving mine for a while and honestly, the Outlander is a beast but kids will definitely test its limits lol.
In my experience, if you want to keep the interior clean, you gotta look at TuxMat Floor Mats for Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I know someone mentioned Husky earlier, and they're fine, but TuxMat covers way more surface area. They basically go all the way up the sides of the footwell. My kid dumped a whole bottle of Gatorade back there last month and it didn't even touch the carpet. Comparison-wise: WeatherTech is super stiff and feels like plastic, while TuxMats have a more premium, rubbery feel that actually stays in place.
For the Level 2 charger, I've tried many over the years. The Lectron is a solid budget pick, but if you want something that'll last a decade, I suggest the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp. It's built like a tank in Canada—all metal casing. I found that cheaper plastic chargers sometimes crack if you drop them on concrete in the winter. The Grizzl-E doesn't have a fancy app, but its reliable as heck. If you highkey need data tracking, maybe look at the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger, tho it costs a lot more.
Lastly, grab a pair of Lusso Gear Kids Car Seat Protector mats. They stop those heavy car seats from permanently denting your upholstery. Good luck with the new car! 👍
So I’ve been deep-diving into the technical side of protecting my PHEV, and tbh, DIY-ing the protection is the way to go if ur into that stuff lol. 1. Surface hardness: I spent a weekend applying a multi-layer SiO2 ceramic coating myself. It basically increases the surface energy so dirt and grime just slide off. Much better than just wax if ur dealing with road salt or bird droppings, plus it keeps the clear coat from oxidizing.
2. Interior ingress: Instead of just mats, I used a high-grade fluoropolymer sealant on all the fabric surfaces. It basically creates a hydrophobic barrier at the molecular level, so when the kids spill something, it beads up instead of soaking into the fibers and causing smells later. 3. Power monitoring: I actually installed a dedicated sub-panel for my charging setup to monitor the amperage draw and thermal peaks. It’s crucial to ensure the J1772 interface doesn't overheat during those long Level 2 cycles, especially with the ambient heat in a closed garage. Basically, doing the prep work yourself saves a ton of cash and you know the coverage is 100%.
Just saw this and had to share what worked for me! You're gonna love the PHEV once it's fully kitted out.
