What are the must-have interior accessories for a new Mitsubishi Outlander?

I honestly thought I was getting a premium-feeling car with this new Outlander but man I am so frustrated with how easily the interior gets trashed. Ive only had the thing for three weeks here in Seattle and the piano black trim around the shifter is already covered in micro-scratches just from setting my keys down once or twice it drives me crazy looking at it in the sunlight. Also the all-weather mats the dealer threw in are a total joke they keep sliding around under the pedals which feels kinda dangerous honestly and they dont even cover the dead pedal area so my carpet is already getting mud stains from my hiking boots. I need to fix this before the car looks like its ten years old already. I have about 400 bucks set aside to just get some decent stuff in here to protect it from my kids and the dog. Does anyone have recommendations for actual good floor liners that dont move? And maybe something to cover up that gloss black plastic before I lose my mind? What are the absolute must-have interior accessories for a new Mitsubishi Outlander that actually fit right and dont look like cheap junk?

In my experience, those sliding mats are a legit safety hazard. I only use stuff with proper locking teeth now. You can save a ton of cash by skipping dealer extras and grabbing these:

I totally get the frustration with that piano black trim. It looks premium for about five minutes then turns into a scratched mess. I was super annoyed with mine too until I just covered it up. Honestly, the best way to handle that is a hard shell cover. I put on the Muslogy Center Console Gear Shift Box Panel Cover Carbon Fiber Style and I have been really happy with it. It hides the existing scratches and stops new ones from happening when I toss my phone or keys down. It just sticks right on and fits the mold perfectly. Regarding the mats, sliding under the pedals is actually dangerous. I swapped my factory ones out for Smartliner Custom Fit Floor Mats 1st & 2nd Row Black and they work so much better than the dealer stuff.

  • They lock into the floor pegs so they never budge.
  • The coverage goes all the way up the dead pedal where your left foot rests.
  • The high edges keep Seattle rain and mud from spilling onto the carpet. Since you mentioned the dog and kids, you might also want to look into Lusso Gear Car Seat Protector with Padding. I use these under the car seats to keep the leather from getting permanent indents and they catch all the crumbs. All of this should fit well within that 400 dollar budget and honestly makes the car feel way more rugged and less like a fragile museum piece. No complaints here after six months of heavy use.

In my experience, those dealer mats are usually just low-grade TPE with zero grip on the underside. Over the years, I have tested a dozen brands and for the Outlander, you need something with deep clipping points. I switched to the WeatherTech FloorLiner Mitsubishi Outlander 2022-2024 because they use laser-measured digital scans to hit the contours exactly, especially the dead pedal area that gets so messy. For the piano black, dont just cover it with more plastic. I went a more technical route with Xpel Ultimate Plus Interior Paint Protection Film Mitsubishi Outlander Trim. Its an 8 mil polyurethane film that actually self-heals from micro-scratches when it gets warm. It takes a steady hand and some soapy water to install, but the finish is basically invisible. Check out some interior PPF install videos on YouTube... definitely worth the effort for the clean look.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
