Just picked up my Taycan Cross Turismo and I’m loving it, but I need advice on the best home setup! Should I stick with the Porsche Mobile Charger or go third-party like a Wallbox? Also, any must-have travel adapters or heavy-duty cable bags for road trips? What accessories have made your daily charging routine easier?

hey, congrats! basically, don't rely on the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus for home; it's kinda buggy and gets way too hot imo. I'd suggest the Wallbox Pulsar Plus 40 Amp Smart EV Charger instead because it's cheaper and actually reliable long-term. for travel, the Juice Booster 2 Portable EV Charging Station is rugged but pricey... maybe just get a Lectron Tesla to J1772 Charging Adapter 48A for destination chargers. gl!

> basically, don't rely on the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus for home... Late to the party but honestly, the stock charger is pretty disappointing—I’ve had issues with it overheating. It basically slows down your charging right when you need it. Check out ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger vs Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger. ChargePoint is sleek with a solid app, while Grizzl-E is literally bombproof for outdoors. Also, pro tip: PlugShare App is essential for finding reliable high-power stalls!

> basically, don't rely on the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus for home... Tbh everyone here is spot on about the stock charger. I have been running my Taycan for over a year now and the biggest mistake I see people make isnt just the charger itself, but the actual electrical setup behind it. If youre going the plug-in route instead of hardwiring, please be careful with the quality of your NEMA 14-50 outlet. Those cheap ones from big box hardware stores arent really meant to pull high amps for ten hours straight every single night. I actually had one start to melt slightly after about six months... super scary stuff and totally not worth the risk. A few things to watch out for over the long haul:

  • Check the plug and outlet for any discoloration or heat every few weeks
  • Make sure the cable has enough slack so it isnt putting weight on the cars charge port
  • Try to keep the heavy charging brick mounted or on a shelf so it doesnt just dangle I think hardwiring is basically the only way to go for true peace of mind? Not 100% sure if everyone agrees but it just feels way safer for long-term daily use. Safe charging is better than fast charging imo!
