What are the absolute must-have performance mods for a Chrysler 300 if Im looking for a bit more punch?

I'm stuck between getting a Mopar cold air intake or just going straight for a Tazer programmer first. My 2018 300S feels a bit sluggish off the line and I want it to sound meaner before my road trip to Florida next month. I have about $700 saved up and I cant decide if the Tazers features like track mode are worth it over the actual sound of an intake. Or maybe I should just look at a pedal commander?

I want something I can install myself in the driveway since the shops around here charge way too much. Which one of these actually makes the biggest difference for daily driving?

Just saw your post and honestly I need to know one thing first... are you rocking the 5.7L Hemi or the 3.6L Pentastar in that S? It makes a massive difference in how the car responds to these mods. In my experience with the LX platform over the years, a cold air intake like the Mopar Cold Air Intake 77070044AD 5.7L V8 is mostly eye candy and engine noise unless youre tuning for it. If that sluggish feeling off the line is driving you nuts, you're really looking for better throttle response mapping. I've tried many setups and the Pedal Commander PC31 Throttle Response Controller is basically the gold standard for fixing that dead pedal feel without needing a shop. It wont give you the growl you want tho. Maybe consider a high-flow drop-in like the K&N 33-2460 High-Flow Air Filter for a tiny bit more sound and then grab the programmer with your leftover cash? Best of both worlds imo.

Honestly, skip the intake and get the BBK Performance 80mm Throttle Body 1844 instead! I love how it actually improves airflow volume for real gains. For the sound you want, check out the Flowmaster FlowFX Cat-Back Exhaust System 717835. It sounds amazing and fits your budget! Its an easy DIY install in the driveway... you wont believe the difference it makes for your road trip!

I totally agree with the guy asking about your engine type... its super important for the long-term health of the car. Before you go spending that $700, I would suggest making sure your cooling system and brakes are in top shape, especially with a long haul to Florida coming up. Those track modes can put a lot of extra stress on things if youre not careful, tho. A few resources you might want to consider:

  • LXForums has huge threads on what mods are actually safe for daily drivers
  • Look up the specific user manuals for any programmer you buy to see the safety warnings
  • Check your tire ratings to make sure they can handle the extra punch Its always better to be a bit cautious when you are doing DIY stuff in the driveway. Definitely worth doing a full fluid check too before you head out. Just stay safe!

Man, go for the programmer first because it is absolutely amazing! I love how it unlocks those hidden performance menus and makes the car feel way more alive. An intake sounds cool but it basically just makes your wallet lighter and your engine louder. Just a heads up tho, stay away from cheap throttle boosters. I have seen them glitch and put cars into limp mode which is super dangerous!
