I just picked up a new Ram ProMaster and I’m currently staring at a giant, empty metal box! I’m planning to use it for my contracting business, and I want to get the organization right from day one before it becomes a cluttered mess. Since the ProMaster has those nice vertical walls, I know there are great ways to maximize the footprint, but I’m overwhelmed by the options. I’m looking for a mix of durability and accessibility—maybe some modular shelving or specific bin systems that won’t rattle too much on the road. Do you recommend starting with a solid bulkhead partition first? What are the absolute 'must-have' storage accessories you’d suggest for a fresh build-out?

sooo i've done three of these builds now and trust me, start with a bulkhead!! it’s literally a lifesaver for noise and safety. i swear by the Weather Guard 96311-3-01 Bulkhead. for the walls, i highly recommend Adrian Steel ADseries Adjustable Shelving cuz they’re super modular and won't rattle your brains out on the highway. basically, get the partition first, then build the shelves out. gl!

TL;DR: Bulkhead first for safety, then modular shelving like Adrian Steel.

Honestly, I started my first contracting biz with a DIY wooden setup and it was such a disaster... it weighed a ton and rattled so loud I basically had to wear earplugs. Definitely dont go the cheap route if you want to keep your sanity!

For your ProMaster, I highkey suggest looking at Ranger Design Fold-Away Shelving. It’s super quiet and lets you tuck shelves away if you need to haul something big. Also, since you mentioned the bulkhead, I’d grab the Masterack Steel Bulkhead for Ram ProMaster right away. It makes a huge difference for the AC and keeping tool noise down. But seriously, the biggest lesson I learned is to get a solid floor first, like Legend Fleet Solutions StabiliGrip Flooring. It gives you a much better base to bolt your shelves into so they wont wiggle or squeak as much over time. Idk if that helps, but basically dont skip the foundation! peace

For your situation, staring at that big empty box is definitely a bit intimidating... i get it. I’ve been in the trades for years but honestly only just started doing my own van builds lately. I’d say the bulkhead is a non-negotiable first step. It really cuts down the road noise and keeps you safe, which is worth the investment alone imo.

Quick question tho—what's your rough budget for this?? And are you hauling mostly heavy power tools or smaller stuff like fittings and screws?

I'd suggest looking into a rail system with modular plastic bins. It's usually a lot cheaper than the full metal shelf units and way quieter too. I like brands like Sortimo or even some heavy-duty bins you can find at big box stores. Metal shelving is great but it can get real noisy if you dont pack it perfectly. Anyway, it’s a decent option if you want to stay cost-conscious but still keep things accessible.
