Just picked up a 2024 Model Y and I am obsessed but the interior feels a bit empty. Ive been looking at floor mats because I live in Seattle and the mud is already getting everywhere. I saw people raving about 3D MAXpider but others say the cheap Amazon ones are basically the same and I dont want to overspend on just rubber.
I am also seeing everyone buy those center console trays. Are they actually useful or just more plastic to rattle around? I have got about 400 bucks to spend and want to get it right before my first road trip next week. What are the actual essentials you guys use every day?
Congrats on the new ride! Honestly, the empty feeling is kinda the point of a Tesla, but yeah, it needs some utility. I was in the same boat with the floor mats. I didnt want to drop massive money on 3D MAXpider KAGU All-Weather Floor Mats for Model Y even tho everyone swears by them. I ended up getting the Taptes All-Weather Floor Mats for Tesla Model Y 5-Seater and I've been super happy with them. They fit perfectly and cost way less. In Seattle, you definitely need the high walls to catch the slush and mud. Dont go too cheap on the thin rubber ones tho, they slide around and look kinda trashy. As for the trays, they are basically mandatory. Without them, the center console is just a giant black hole where you lose your keys and change. I got the Spigen Center Console Organizer Tray for Tesla Model 3 and Y and it doesnt rattle at all because it has a little rubber lining inside. It makes the space actually usable for stuff you need to grab quickly while driving. Since you got a road trip coming up, definitely grab a screen protector too. I use the Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector Glas.tR EZ Fit for Tesla Model 3/Y and it makes the screen way less of a fingerprint magnet. It also helps with glare when the sun hits it. These few things should keep you well under your 400 dollar budget and make the car feel finished.
Re: "Congrats on the new ride! Honestly, the empty..." - im satisfied with these:
Be careful with cheap mats sliding.
Like someone mentioned, that sparse look really grows on you after the initial shock. I've had my Y for a long time now and I'm super satisfied with keeping it simple. Honestly, the minimalist vibe is one of the best parts about the car once you live with it for a while. Since you're prepping for a road trip next week, I'd look into stuff that makes the long hours more comfortable. I think I read somewhere that the roof glass can let in quite a bit of heat during the day. IIRC, a lot of people grab those clip-in mesh sunshades for the ceiling. Not 100% sure if they actually drop the cabin temp by a massive amount, but they definitely stop the sun from cooking your scalp while you're cruising down the highway.
