Trying to gear up for a family camping trip in three weeks and im honestly losing my mind with these options. Torn between the Thule WingBar and the Rhino-Rack Vortex but the price gap is huge.
Which one actually stays on best without scratching the rails?
I've been using the Inno Racks XS100 Aero Bar System for Raised Rails and honestly it is a decent option. The rubber-coated steel straps are super gentle on the factory rails, so no scratching. It fits the Thule Motion box and it works well for noise. The install takes a bit longer than some others but its worth the safety. Let me know if you need help!
Go with the Rhino-Rack setup! Honestly, spending the extra cash on Thule just for the name brand is totally overkill when you have a $550 limit. I have been running the Rhino-Rack Vortex SX Roof Rack System for Raised Rails on my Atlas for years and it is incredible! It fits the Thule Motion XT XL Cargo Box like a glove. Check these points:
unfortunately i had issues with the finish on my rails getting chewed up by the expensive brands, so i wouldnt bother with the high-end stuff. definitely check the fitment guides on etrailer before you pull the trigger. i swapped to the Yakima TimberLine System with JetStream Bars and it is much quieter than my old setup. fits the budget and wont leave marks if you mount it right.
^ This. Also, if you prioritize rail protection, the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack System 50 inch is a very reliable middle ground. It is built well and the integrated locks are a decent safety feature. It stays quiet at highway speeds and handles a Thule Motion XT L Cargo Box with no stability issues. It wont blow your 550 budget while keeping everything secure for the trip.
