I’m finally taking my FL5 to its first track day next month and couldn't be more hyped! I want to make sure I’m fully prepared so I don't end up cutting my sessions short. I’ve heard these cars can struggle with heat, so I’m already looking into high-temp brake fluid like Castrol SRF. Beyond the basics like a good helmet, what other accessories or small upgrades are essential? I’m specifically looking for recommendations on a reliable tire pressure gauge and maybe some tow hooks just in case. Are there any specific tools or cooling accessories you guys consider 'must-haves' for a successful day at the circuit? Would love to hear your setups!

Seconding the budget advice above! I saw this earlier but just now responding. Safety is HUGE, so i'd add: - EPAuto 1/2-inch Drive Click Torque Wrench (~$30): Seriously, you gotta check those lugs after every session. - Rhino USA Heavy Duty Tire Pressure Gauge 75 PSI: Cheap but actually reliable. Be careful with the heat, honestly. I've seen stuff go wrong when people get overconfident. Good luck!

yo, just catching up. basically, dont overspend on gear for your first time. i really suggest these budget basics: - TireTek Premium Tire Pressure Gauge 60 PSI (~$15)
- Dewhel Folding Racing Tow Hook for Honda Civic Type R just be really cautious with those temps tho. if things feel wierd, just pit in immediately... better safe than sorry! gl!

Ok so, unfortunately, FL5 cooling is not as good as expected for heavy track use. I've seen sessions cut short way too often... Honestly, dont rely on cheap tools. i had issues with accuracy before, so definitely grab a Longacre 52003 Digital Tire Pressure Gauge. For safety, i strictly recommend a Cusco 3C1 017 F Racing Tow Hook. Seriously, make sure ur brakes are professionally bled. gl!

> Beyond the basics like a good helmet, what other accessories or small upgrades are essential? Honestly, since the FL5 runs SO hot, i really suggest grabbing some Titanium Brake Shim Shields for Honda Civic Type R to keep heat away from your caliper seals. Also, instead of digital stuff, I'd go for the JOES Racing 32307 Analog Tire Pressure Gauge cuz it's basically bulletproof and wont fail on you mid-session. Better safe than sorry when you're pushing it! gl!

Just saw this and wanted to add a few points. Before getting into specific gear, which track are you heading to and what is the forecast? The FL5 thermal management is very sensitive to ambient temps, so that changes the priority list. A few things to be careful with:

  • Dont torque your lug nuts while the wheels are still heat-soaked. You risk stretching the studs.
  • Avoid gauges with short, rigid hoses. Youll end up burning your knuckles on those big Brembos.
  • Watch out for cheap 12v pumps. They often overheat or blow fuses when you are trying to adjust pressures between sessions. When comparing brands, the difference between something like Intercomp and a generic store brand is calibration stability. High-end brands stay accurate as they get hot, while the cheaper ones tend to drift once they have been sitting in a hot paddock all day.

tbh i'm kinda disappointed that we have to baby these cars so much. unfortunately the fl5 just isn't the 'track monster' i expected without doing a bunch of extra work first. totally agree with the warning about wheel studs... i've seen way too many people strip them by being impatient when the wheels are still scorching. if you're doing the diy thing, i'd definitely bring:

  • a basic infrared temp gun to check your rotors
  • extra distilled water and some water wetter just in case
  • a small tarp to lay on if you gotta crawl under the car there are some really good diy cooling threads on the main civic type r forums that show how to trim the grill or add vents if you're brave enough. honestly just keep an eye on that temp gauge and dont be afraid to take a cool down lap early if things look spicy. stay safe!
