I just got my first 911 GTS last month and I'm honestly terrified of the winter here in Chicago. I dont know much about cars at all really so please bear with me if this sounds stupid. Its sitting in my garage right now but it gets pretty cold in there and I heard the salt ruins everything.

Do I need like a special blanket for it or something? I saw people talking about battery things too so it doesnt die? I have about $1k to spend on stuff right now before the first big snow hits in a couple weeks. What kind of gear do I actually need to keep it safe until spring? I'm totally lost...

Re: "Chicago winters are brutal on Porsche batteries so..." yeah, that advice is spot on for the electronics. Just saw this today and wanted to add a few things. One big thing though... are you planning to drive it at all on dry days, or is it basically hibernating until April? If it is just sitting, you really gotta think about the tires. The rubber on a GTS is super soft and when it sits in a cold Chicago garage for months, it can develop flat spots which feel like driving on square wheels later. Tbh, I'd suggest picking up some RaceRamps FlatStoppers 14-inch Storage Ramps to park on. They distribute the weight so the tires stay round. Also, gas actually degrades over time, which is bad for the fuel injectors. Kinda important to add something like STA-BIL Storage Fuel Stabilizer 32 fl oz to the tank before you park it for good. It keeps the fuel from gumming up. Let me know about the driving situation tho, cuz salt spray is a whole different beast if you're hitting the road.

Quick reply while I have a sec... honestly, you gotta worry about moisture in a cold garage. I've tried many setups over the years:

Chicago winters are brutal on Porsche batteries so you definitely need a maintainer. The standby drain is real even in a cold garage. Basically:
